UncategorizedTop 3 Benefits of Prenatal Massage

Are you a soon-to-be-mom? Being pregnant is a life-changing experience. It’s also a physically overwhelming one. Growing a new life inside of you takes a lot of energy from your body, and it can make you sore in places you didn’t know existed. Research has shown that prenatal massage does wonders at reducing anxiety, decreasing depression, and relieving aches and pains. It even improves labor outcomes. If that’s not enough to convince you to try a prenatal massage, then Le Reve Rittenhouse Spa has three more benefits to share with you. Le Reve is the leading day spa in center city Philadelphia.

1. Reduces swelling

Swelling of the joints is referred to as edema. Many women experience this during pregnancy due to reduced circulation and increased pressure on major blood vessels by the uterus. A prenatal massage helps stimulate your soft tissues to reduce the collection of fluids in these swollen joints. Prenatal massage also improves the removal of tissue waste transported by your body’s lymph system. If you’re pregnant and you want to see a reduction in swelling, treat yourself to the best massage in Rittenhouse Square at Le Reve Rittenhouse Spa. We know that being pregnant is beautiful, but we also know that it can be uncomfortable at times.

2. Regulates hormones

Over the last ten years, studies have shown that hormone levels associated with relaxation and stress are significantly affected by prenatal massage. Women everywhere report such benefits as improved mood regulation and improved cardiovascular health through prenatal massage. In fact, women who received bi-weekly massages for five weeks of their pregnancies had reduced levels of the stress hormones norepinephrine and cortisol. In addition, they showed increased levels of both dopamine and serotonin levels.

3. Reduces nerve pain

Many women complain about sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy. This is because late in pregnancy, the uterus sits on the pelvic floor and lower back muscles. This pressure from the uterus sends tension through the upper and lower leg muscles. As you can imagine, this results in a lot of uncomfortable swelling and pressure. Prenatal massage performed by a qualified massage therapist helps release the nerve tension and helps reduce the pain associated with it. If you’d like to decrease the effects of nerve pain, then let the best day spa in Rittenhouse Square work their magic for you. Our licensed massage therapists know exactly how to treat a mom-to-be with a peaceful and painless prenatal massage.
